What is SEO? And Why Does It Matter?

You've created a website (or blog) and now you want to attract visitors to your site.

One of the most effective ways to attract customers online is by utilizing SEO or Search Engine Optimization. SEO is a marketing process of increasing traffic to your website through organic (non-paid) search engine results.

Everyday, 5.5 billion searches are entered into Google's search engine (and that's not including search engines like Bing or Yahoo!).

Search engines are like Librarians for the internet. They house all of the website content that exists on the web and in order to suggest the right "book" or website to its visitors, it utilizes SEO.

The "O" in SEO stands for "optimization" which is defined as the action of making the best or most effective use of a situation or resource.

In order to make the best use of your website, the key is to ensure that your site has the right content and speed to rank high on search engine results pages (SERPs).

Tip: Google AdWords Keyword Planner helps you identify keywords with high traffic and low competition. The more competition there is for a keword, the harder it will be to rank on page 1.

Tip: Test the load time of your webpage by taking the Pingdom Website Speed Test.
